Crowns and Bridges

When a tooth becomes decayed or broken and cannot be repaired with a filling, a crown is used to bring the tooth back to its original function and appearance.

Crowns may also be the best treatment option if you have a cracked tooth, a very large filling which may fracture, or simply for esthetic reasons.

Crowns are not intended to be removed. They cover the entire tooth and are cemented on permanently. While crowns can be silver and gold, the majority of crowns are made of porcelain, which can match existing tooth shades, and molded to the same shape and size as the original tooth.

Dental Bridges

While crowns cover a single tooth, a bridge is a dental treatment used to replace one or more missing teeth.

The surrounding teeth are used as anchors to support the bridge prosthesis. The bridge is cemented onto those anchor teeth, making the bridge a permanent fixture.

Patients are able to use the bridge as they would their normal teeth. Bridges require more maintenance as they cannot be naturally flossed like our normal teeth.

The criteria for crowns and bridges must be assessed by way of clinical and radiographic analysis. Not all patients can or will benefit from crowns/bridges as other forms of dental treatments may be more appropriate for their oral health.
